    Abstract
    BACKGROUNG: Hypetensive disorders in pregnancy remain a major contributor of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Current data is needed in KNH on the treatment of severe preeclampsia in the obstetric unit. OBJECTIVE: To determine the management and the outcome of severe preeclampsia at the Kenyatta National Hospital. STUDY DESIGN: This was a cross-sectional study on the retrospective analysis of records of patients with severe preeclampsia. STUDY SETING : This study was concluded at the Kjenyatta National hospital . STUDY OBJECTIVES: All case notes of patients with blood pressure higher than 160mmHg systolic of 110mmHg diastolic, other other features of peeclampsia who were admitted between January 1, 1999 and December 31 2003 were studied. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: treatment regimen in use for preeclampsia. maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. RESULTS: There were 33.661 deliveries at KNH during the study periord. Severe hypertensive disease occurred in 1.14%deriveries. Combination of hydralazine and menthyldopa was the most commonly used.......
