Effects of Outsourcing Strategy on Procurement Performance among Universities in Kenya

Abstract

The main objective of the study is to determine the effects of outsourcing strategy on procurement performance among Universities in Kenya. The study found that contracting, comprehensive outsourcing, licensing agreement and selective outsourcing strategies were the main determinants of procurement performance of universities in Kenya. The target population was all university (66) entities in Kenya while the sample population was 336 respondents. This study collected both primary and secondary data. Data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21, due to its ability to predict for identifying groups such as factor analysis, descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation, frequencies, as well as bivariate statistics such as Means, ANOVA and Correlation tests. The study recommends that universities should put more emphasis on training and information sharing in order to improve procurement performance, all procurement process should be automated so as to reduce the error rates and discrepancies in the process and align their procurement procedures to Public Procurement and Disposal Act since an efficient procurement process could be used as a competitive advantage.
