Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi, is the
National referral hospital for the Republic of Kenya.
The hospital also provides health needs for the
Nairobi population and the surrounding areas. In
addition it is a major centre for training of
medical and paramedical personnel.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is
an integral part of this hospital.
OBSTETRIC SERVICE AT KENYATTA NATIONAL HOSPITAL
The obstetric unit consists of the antenatal clinic,
maternity wards 1, 2 and 3 and labour ward. Patients
are managed on "Firm" basis of wh i.ch t.here are three.
Each maternity ward has ~2 beds. The labour ward has
10 beds in first stage. There are 3 delivery rooms each
having 2 beds. There is one Intensive Care side-room with
.3 beds for management of eclampsia, hypertensive
patients and critically ill patients. There are 2 theatre~
one for emergency and elective obstetric operations
and the other for postpartum tubal ligation under local
anaesthesia.
