    Abstract
    This dissertation provides an outline history of the Keiyo People between C..1700 and 1919. The main theme is on the various factors that led to the emergence of the Keiyo as a Society. It will be demonstrated that the Keiyo are an amalgalm of diverse elements. The study is divided into an introduction and four chapters.The.introduction presents the structural and theoretical framework of the whole study. It wiII also pose certain questions whose answers. are attempted in the study. In chapter one an attempt is mads to discuss the various theories of Kalenjin origin, migration and settlement. The second and third chapters are the most important in the study because the main focus will be on the contribution of.interaction to the emergence and consolidation of the fragmentary society. The final chapter examines the arrival of Europeans and the subsequent establishment of British Colonial rule. It is finally suggested that colonial rule was an important factor in the consolidation of the various clans of the Keiyo.
