    Abstract
    The research study sought to examine the extent to which poor remuneration is a cause of corruption by public officers. The objectives of the study were; to determine the relationship between poor remuneration and bribery demand by public officers, to identify the attitudes, values and opinions of public officers on bribery demands and to propose measures based on the study findings on the best way of tackling bribery demands by public officers. The study intended to use quantities analysis research design method to determine the relationship between variables. Cluster sampling method was used to identify the population tube studied. Data for this study was collected using well designed questionnaires. Parameters such as the mean and mode were used to analyze the data. The data was presented in the form of frequency tables. The findings of the study indicated that low remuneration had a direct effect on corruption in the public sector. The study also revealed that even when there were other factors that contributed to corruption in the public sector, the effect of low remuneration was leading highest. Lastly, the study established that public officers perceived that corruption in the public sector could be greatly reduced by increasing the remuneration of public officers.
