There were two reasons for doing this study. The first being to explore the relation between environmentally sustainable manufacturing practices and how firms based in Mombasa County perform. The second was to understand what challenges firms face in adopting these practices. The practices considered are green purchasing, eco-design, green packaging and the management of internal environment. Data used in this research was collected using structured questionnaires and responded to by 42 manufacturing firms based in Mombasa County. Green purchasing, eco-design, green packaging and internal environmental management were found to have an effect on firm performance. The number of participants was restricted because only manufacturing firms operating in Mombasa County were considered in the population therefore the results cannot be generalized.en_US
