Enterprise Resource Planning System Implementation and Competitiveness of Amref International University
Abstract
This study purposed to examine the influence of enterprise resource planning system implementation on competitiveness of Amref International University. Research was intended to provide valuable information to the University for Decision making and to the government for policymaking and practice. Similarly, the study was anchored on three main theories namely; technology acceptance model, contingency theory and systems theory. On methodology, the study employed a case study research design that centered on Amref International University. The study targeted six participants all drawn from senior management level. Data was gathered using interview guides and content analysis employed for analysis purpose. The results reported that enterprise resource planning systems implementation plays a vital role in enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery in an organization. The systems integrates different functions such as accounting, finance and procurement hence enabling users to coordinate and share work responsibilities in a manner that upholds organizational efficiency. Amongst the notable problems facing enterprise resource planning implementation include inadequate finances as integrated ERPs are not cheap, technology apathy by employees, poor internet connectivity and cyber-attacks. The study established that technology has redefined service delivery in Kenya’s education sector especially digitization and artificial intelligence has contributed to the success of eLearning and implementation of virtual programs. Therefore, the study concludes that enterprise resource planning system integrates accounting, finance and procurement functions hence enabling users to coordinate and share work responsibilities in a manner that upholds organizational efficiency. The system also makes finance, procurement, transport and human resource processes more effective and manageable under a single system hence ensuring effective monitoring of all the departments. Similarly, the study concludes that management support in terms of technical and financial resources is fundamental to the successful implementation of enterprise resource planning systems and competitiveness. It’s hence important that the University management implements strategies with growth potential in the education sector. The study strongly recommends the University to introduce on demand courses, flexible learning, move from brick and mortar to virtual to enable international learners access timely services. Additionally, the study recommends digitization and incorporation of artificial intelligence tools in learning to enhance efficiency. The study recommends further studies in this subject to address any other existing gaps and ensure continuity
