dc.description.abstract | Due to globalization, there has been increased competition, scarcity of resource, need for efficiency and effectiveness, increased demand for environmental protection and changes in customer’s preferences and tastes. This has posed a lot of challenges to entities and they are trying to come up with ways of averting these milestones. Green procurement has a vital part in ensuring that the integrity of any given brand is maintained. This study aimed at establishing the effect of Green Procurement Practices on Supply Chain Performance of Large Retail Outlets in Nairobi, Kenya. The study had two objectives namely; to establish the level of adoption of Green Procurement Practices by Large Retail Outlets in Nairobi, Kenya and to determine the relationship between Green Procurement Practices and Supply Chain Performance of Large Retail Outlets in Nairobi, Kenya. The methodology adopted was descriptive research design and primary data was collected through questionnaires which were administered by electronic mails and drop and pick later method. The population was made up of all the 35 large retail outlets in Nairobi hence Census was carried out. Descriptive statistics was used in the analysis of objective one while objective two was analyzed through regression analysis. The findings indicate that supplier partnership and ethical purchasing were adopted to a large extent while eco-design and packaging was moderately adopted. Cost, reliability and responsiveness were found to be influenced by the adoption of green procurement practices of large retail outlets in Kenya. The result also indicate that Green procurement practices (Supplier partnership and ethical purchasing) was found to positively influence supply chain performance of large retail outlets in Nairobi. It is recommended that Green Procurement practices be fully adopted by large retail outlets in Nairobi as they have been found to have a significant correlation with supply chain performance. Future studies can introduce a third variable be it mediating or intervening variable to see how the outcome will be. | en_US |
