Application of Regression Analysis in Testing Predictors of Contraceptives Use Among Men in Kenya
Abstract
Contraceptives use is broadly considered as a measure in addressing growth in human
population and ensuring access to reproductive health services. The advantages of using
contraceptives are reduction in unwanted pregnancies and abortions, as well as population
management.
This study employs logistic regression model, in determining factors influencing use of
contraceptives among men in Kenya. Utilizing secondary data from the 2014 Kenya Demographic
Health Survey (KDHS) conducted by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics
(KNBS), the study surveyed 20,964 men aged between 15 and 49 from 47 counties of Kenya.
The findings indicate associations between contraceptive use and predictors such as age,
marital status, education level, number of children in the household, desired number of
children by the man and unmet need for contraception.
The findings further shows that marital status and unmet need for contraceptives are
significant positive predictors implying that men with higher marital status/married and
have greater unmet need of contraceptives are more likely to use contraceptives
