Strategic Planning and Service Delivery at National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Kenya
Abstract
Organizations across diverse industries and sectors strive to achieve organizational goals by meeting customer expectations in the current operating environment. As a result, strategies to offer products and services are gaining management practitioners' attention in both profit and non-profit-oriented organizations. In addition, a case study research design was used, where the researcher used an interview guide with an open-ended set of questions for data collection and carried out a thorough content analysis. The study's goal was to investigate the impact of strategic planning on service delivery at NACADA, Kenya. It was grounded in two theories: resource-based theory and institutional theory. The findings established that NACADA has a clear and well-aligned vision and mission, underscoring its commitment to combat alcohol and drug abuse. The organization employs a multifaceted approach to service delivery, combining educational programs, support services, and policy advocacy to fulfil its mandate. NACADA's strategic planning process, marked by environmental analysis, SWOT assessments, and stakeholder engagement, enables it to navigate the dynamic landscape of substance abuse prevention and control. While NACADA faces challenges such as resource constraints and accessibility barriers, its dedication to service quality, reliability, and cost-efficiency remains steadfast. The organization's robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and continuous data collection, ensure accountability and progress tracking. Collaborations with communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and policymakers enhance its outreach and advocacy efforts. NACADA's adaptability and commitment to continuous improvement position it as a key player in Kenya's fight against substance abuse. As the organization moves forward, its holistic approach, mission alignment, and engagement with stakeholders promise to contribute significantly to the prevention and control of alcohol and drug abuse in the country, ultimately improving the well-being of its citizens. To enhance NACADA's effectiveness in preventing and controlling alcohol and drug abuse in Kenya, several policy measures are recommended. First and foremost, increased funding and resource allocation from the government are essential. Adequate financial support would enable NACADA to overcome its budgetary limitations, expand its outreach, and invest in modern technology and infrastructure. This funding would bolster service delivery and empower the organization to improve data management, analysis, and predictive capabilities, allowing it to respond more proactively to emerging substance abuse trends
