    Abstract
    The study attempted to investigate and analyze Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination results in Nairobi. A case study of low income catchment area of public primary schools in rural Dagoretti Constituency. Five key areas were covered. Demographic distribution of head teachers, teaching methods used by the teachers. Effectiveness of quality control and standards and causes of poor performance in Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE) A short background information on education and evaluation is covered in chapter one and two. The population consisting of twenty four (24) public primary schools out of which a sample of fifteen (15) schools was randomly selected for the study. The study subject were (15) fifteen head teachers and (30) primary teachers from the selected schools. The main research tool used in this study was the questionnaire which sought to obtain information on demographic distribution of head teachers and teachers, management styles, teaching methods, effectiveness of quality control and standard and causes of poor performance in Kenya Certificate of primary Examination (K.C.P.E.) The study found out among other things that there more male head teachers than female head teachers and that both teachers and head teachers are professionally qualified with PI grade as the lowest. The study found out that there is a serious shortage of teachers in schools. It is therefore important to employ more teachers to improve school performance in Kenya certificate of primary examination.
