    Abstract
This work is an investigation into NP and WH movement in Kikuyu using the Government and Binding Theory. NP movement is demonstrated in passive and raising constructions and the principles of GB are applied to the movement of the elements of these constructions. WH movement is demonstrated in interrogative sentences. Passive and raising constructions are observed to adhere to some extend to GB principles. WH movement is seen as an obligatory transformation that involves the use of the particle.
