| dc.description | This paper has been written as a chapter for Vol.3 of the
Oxford History of East Africa. It begins by describing the links
between Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika which provided them with a
common market, a common monetary system and a number of common
services including the railways, the post office and a number of
research institutes. It then goes on to examine why Uganda and
Tanganyika became increasingly dissatisfied during the 1950's
with the way in which, these links were operating, and examines
the evidence for the allegation that both the common market and
the various common services were operating more to the advantage of
Kenya than of the other two. Finally It describes the steps taken
prior to Independence to reconstitute the links so as to make them
more acceptable to all concerned. | |
