    The distribution and fate of 14C labeled DDT in a tropical marine environment.

    Abstract
    A study on the fate of 1,1,1 trichloro-2, 2 bis (p-chlorophenyl) ethane (DDT) in the environment was conducted using a model ecosystem simulating a tropical marine ecosystem. The ecosystem comprised seawater, sediment, white shrimp and fish. DDT residues and its metabolites were determined using Liquid Scintillation Counting and Gas Chromatography with electron capture detector, respectively. The objective of the study was to investigate the distribution of DDT residues among the components of the ecological system, the rate of elimination from fish, Gobious nudiceps and white shrimp, Panaeus setiferus, and the toxicity of DDT to both the fish species and white shrimp.
