Trace gas emissions from biomass cookstoves in Kiambu and Bungoma districts. (A pilot study).

Abstract

A study incorporating an opinion survey and quantification of selected trace gases (C02, CO and NO) emitted from biomass fires was conducted in Kiambu and Bungoma districts respectively between 1996 and 1997. The 3-stone stove and the Kenya ceramic jiko (KCJ) were used in the trace gas quantification process. The objectives of the opinion survey was to establish biofuel consumption patterns, rates and sourcing patterns; all deemed important in designing strategies towards biofuel sufficiency The opinion survey was executed through questionnaire via random sampling techniques.
