Urban infrastructure management using geographic Information systems technology:The case of Nairobi, Kenya

Abstract

The rapid growth of urban areas in developing countries puts extreme pressure on urban administrations and municipalities to finance and manage basic public utilities. The use of effective, economical and easy to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in these countries should help improve the management and planning of urban infrastructure. This thesis will investigate the possibility of applying Geographic Information Systems Technology to this task. A section of the city of Nairobi, Kenya will be used to demonstrate the capability of this technology. It will be
