Workshop Information System

Abstract

National Irrigation Board (NIB) is a government non-strategic organization responsible in development and management of irrigation settlement schemes in Kenya. Agricultural machinery workshop system is a core business in the organisation. The JI110untof data kept by the Workshop department is usually huge and overwhelms the current manual system. It is tedious to obtain vital information and follow up the status of the various processes in procurement of Machinery spares among other items and their issuance. With the advent of IT and motivated by changes in the current business environment, ()rs~mizations have to restructure their operations in order to operate more efficiently and C£fectivelyto take control of d.u.i and business process. The Workshop department therefore needs an automated system; to enable the organization track and fore cast materials procurement from suppliers and usagepatterns within the organization to reduce cost and W:1stage. Workshop Information System (WIS), has been developed based on relational data, Microsoft access 2000 was used as the Data Base Management System (DBMS). The overall system included Workshop system, Stores system and Supplies systems combined. It's hoped that there is a lot for every one to learn from the chapters that follow.
