    Abstract
The commercial banks in Kenya have not been spared in the environmental changes. Through the process of orientation, commercial banks seek to reposition themselves in order to create new competencies and capacities to exploit and deal with new situations. In late 1990's commercial banks experienced several challenges resulting to mergers of some banks and closure of several branches as a way of cutting down on costs due to high costs of living resulting to customers not saving as per the expectations. During this time some banks were also placed under statutory management to help them recover for purposes of protecting the common man.As a result of this trend the banks started rebranding their products and repositioning themselves to tap the much needed business. This saw the emergence and introduction of ATMs in most banks at the beginning of this century. Introduction of competitiveness through IT thus required high skills and great experience on the part of the employee. It is against this background and the struggle by commercial banks to stay afloat that this survey undertook to analyse the 4< orientation practices in commercial banks. The study sought to establish the orientation - practices for employees in commercial banks and to determine the extend to which bank employees are satisfied with the orientation practices in commercial banks. The survey was conducted by giving questionnaires to bank employees in the ten leading banks according to MI(2002).
