    Abstract
This thesis describes the results of a resistivity study performed in the period September, 1987 - September, 1988 in the Isenya area, some 56 Krn south. of Nairobi, Kenya. The main objective of the study was to delineate aquifers for the purpose of groundwater development in the area. A total of 60 vertical electrical soundings (VES) were made using the Schlumberger configuration.About 80% of these provided good data. The results of the soundings reveal a close correlation between the geoelectric layers and the artificial groundwater (outcrops' as well as the geology of the area. A hydrogeological basin trending NW-SE has been delineated both in terms of geometry and extent. This trend coincides with the structural trend and strongly suggests that the groundwater flow is structurally controlled. For further groundwater development in the Isenya area it is recommended that boreholes for groundwater abstraction be sited within this basin and preferably along the structural lines. This basin appears to be the area of the highest groundwater potential.
