    Abstract
This study considered the investment practices of pension fund managers in Kenya. The study surveyed the practices of pension fund managers in an environment constrained by RBA investment guidelines. The findings of the study failed to establish a significant difference in asset allocation strategies of different fund managers. It however revealed that risk and return are the key considerations in investment. The study identified market illiquidity as the main problem facing fund management. The sector had considerable growth both in size and scope over the study period. The findings were analyzed in juxtaposition with the theoretical and empirical framework and recommendations have been made to minimize deviations from what is expected of this sub sector. The study established that the regulations in place were general and not specific to the extent that a fund manager could easily manipulate them to meet their personal whims. The study thus highly advocates for more stringent regulation and the introduction ofless costly investment vehicles
