The number of accidents in these industries has continued to increase despite the Governments effort to put up legislation's to safeguard the health and safety of workers. The losses to employees and employers are enormous and therefore a need to undertake a study on this subject. To achieve this objective, a study of all chemical manufacturing firms In Nairobi was carried out. The results indicated that the firms consider health and safety as very important. They identified such factors as fire, explosions, in-flammables as the major hazards. The research also indicated that most of the firms have specific programmes to ensure health and safety of its workers. These programmes included having a health and safety policy communicated to employees during recruitment, having safety officers and having thorough medical checkups during recruitment. Regular medical checkups for employees were also reported in many of the firms.
