    Government Insurance supervisory system (GISS) for the Department of Insurance Ministry of Finance & Planning

    Abstract
    The need to supervise the Kenyan Insurance industry for the Government of Kenya by recommending relevant policies and practices to the Minister of Finance and the Parliament; by monitoring the activities of the members of the industry; and ensuring that all members of the insurance industry comply with the Insurance Act of 1984 Cap 487 of the laws of Kenya. It has therefore become significant and necessary for the Department of Insurance to change its traditional way of supervisory to a more computerized supervisory information system. This project report details the document of a computerized Government Insurance Supervisory System of the department of Insurance, Ministry of Finance and Planning. This is a department that is charged with the responsibility of making sure that the Insurance Act has enacted in the laws of Kenya is implemented properly to all members of the Insurance industry and also protect the members of the public as relates to insurance matters. The project covers requirement elucidation (feasibility study), requirement analysis, design and implementation of a computer based supervisory system. The main objective is to automate the various manual supervisory activities as the insurance industry is growing as well as protect the members of the public who have insured with the various insurance companies. At the same time the increasing role of the insurance industry in the national economy as a result of income and investments from this industry. The automated system is made to achieve the objectives in the project proposal. The system obtains data from the various schedules submitted to the commissioner's office from members of the insurance industry. With the automated system Data entry errors will be minimized. Registration process of the members will be faster; it will also make the department of Insurance cope up with the technological changes in the computing industry. The automated' system will produce reports as required by the commissioner of Insurance for supervisory purposes.
