    Abstract
In this two year retrospective study the main indications for Cs were found to be cephalopelvic di~proportion (35%), previous Cs 25%, foetal distress (13.7%), malpresentation 5.5% and antepartum haemorrhage (5.5%). These five accounted for about 7ttiYo of Cs operations. 80%of these were emergency while 20%were elective procedures. The maternal mortality was 2.2 per 1000 births; the perinatal mortality was 51. 9 per 1000 births while neonatal mortality was 35.9 per 1000 live births. These rates are high. The LBW rate was 12.5% of babies born of whom 37%were SGA. The main causes of neonatal death were infection, severe asphxia and Rh-isoimmunization while LBW was an Important associated cause. Recommendations aimed at reducing the unfavourable outcome are made.
