Diabetic retinopahhy in relaiton diabetic controlin patients attending diabetic clinic at Kenyatta Natidnal Hospital
Abstract
A total of 95 patients attending diabetic clinic at the Kenyatta National Hospital were picked at random for this study. j....J UT these did not keep the appointment for the eye examination and hence they were dropped from the study.
Fluorescene angiography revealed that of these
patients had diabetic retinopathy. Almost all the patients found to have diabetic retinopathy had background lesions.
52 of the patients (68%) had poorly controlled blood glucose
()8 mmol/l) and of these 17 (32%) were found to have

25 out of 77 patients had well controlled blood glucose
({8 mmol/l) and of these 11 (44%) had retinopathy. 3 out of the
80 patients seen did not have their retinae visualised either
of 77 patients were seen. Overall 65% of the patients with retinopathy had poorly controlled diabetes.
25 out of 26 patients with retinopathy had background lesions and only 1 patient had proliferative retinopathy.
