    Pregnancy outcome in women with sexually transmitted pathogens: mycoplasmas, neisseria gonorrhoeae and chlamydia trachomatis

    Abstract
    This was a prospective study conducted at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) between 1.2.1986 and 31.8.1986. 402 antenatal women and 315 of who delivered at KNH, had cervical specimens of the above organisms obtained and cultured. Cultures were also obtained from babies’ eyes, mouth and throat. The prevalence rate in the mother for chlamydia trachomatis was 15.9%, mycoplasmas hominis 19.1%, U. urealyticum 18.2% and gonorrhoea 1.2%. prevalence rate in newborns for chlamydia trachomatis 0.6%, mycoplasmas hominis 1.0%, U. urealyticum and Neisseria gonorrhoea 0.3%
