Patients

mellitus
are
at
a
higher
risk
of
lower
extremity
complications
as
compared
to
the
irnon-diabetic
counterparts
OBJECTIVE

five
months

patient

Kenyatta

Hospital
SUBJECTS
Ambulatory
subjects
with
Diabetes
mellitus
without
active
foot lesions
RESULTS
A total
of
218
patients
with
Diabetes
were
studied.
58%
were
females.
The
mean
(SO)
age
of
the
study
population
was
58.6(8.9)
years
and
that
of
men
was
59.6(9)
years.
The
mean
(SO)
duration
of
diabetes
in
males
was
16.6
(4.4)
years
while
that
in
females
was
15.9
(4.3)
years.
The
mean
(SO)
random
blood
sugar
in
males
was
higher
than
that
in
females,
13.13
(3.9)
mmols/l versus
10.86
(2.9)
mmols/l
respectively.
Males
had
a mean
(SO)
body
mass
index
of
25.48
(3.5)·
kg/mL
while
females
had
a
mean
(SO)
body
mass
index
of
26.07
(2.9)
kg/m
