    Abstract
56 sicklers attending the adult haematology clinic or admitted to the Medical Wards - KNH were studied during the period from December, 1981 to November.Patients studied comprised 30 males and 26 females most of them young adults under 25 years 'Old. Hyperuricaemia in sickle cell disease, :reported in the past (1,2,3) was a frequent finding in this study with a prevalence of h7 G 9%e The hyperuricaemia was shown to be related directly to the increased cell turnover due to haemolysis in sickle cell disease (1). Mean BUN, serum creatinine and electrolytes were normal suggesting very low incidence of renal insufficiency in sickle cell disease, (4,5,6)Q Urine concentrating defect described in sickle cell disease was confirmed in this study (6). Haematological parameters were consistent with haemolytic anaemia .
