Isolation and chemical characterization of flavonoids From tephrosia interructa and tephrosia linearis

Abstract

The thesis describes a chemical study of two tropical plant species, namely Tephrosia interrupta and Tephrosia linearis. Chromatographic separation of the hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of the leaves, roots, stem and pods of Tephrosia interrupta led to the isolation of the flavonoids 5-methoxyisolonchocarpin (_26) , Isopongaflavone (.28) , Pongachalcone (^9), Rotenone (3_0a) and Deguelin (3_0b) . The same technique was applied on 1ephrosia 1 inearis pods and roots to give Rotenone (3£a) , Deguelin (30b), Toxicarol (32), Tephrosin (3_3a) and 12a-hydroxy -rotenone (33b) . Structural elucidation of these compounds was performed on the basis of their spectroscopic data.
