    School for parking boys Community integrated: study report

    Abstract
    To design a rehabilitation/education center for destitute children with particular emphasis on the parking boys in Nairobi who under absolutely squalid condition and a number between 150 to 200 aged between 4 and 15 years. The basic needs of the boys food and shelter coupled with this is education facilities both formal and informal as hobbies and crafts workshops are also provided to help the elder boys particularly those who are over age to learn trade where they can earn a living for the rest of their lives. Facilities are also provided for use by the community .for social and education purposes.The community is using the workshops and working with the boys.They have a day time classroom and can also use the boys classrooms in the evening.In other places like halls and games fields they meet the boys informally and here the boys will learn the important subject of socializing. OTHER FACILITIES An administration block holding the offices necessary for the smooth running of the school and for consultation with the community. A clinic for use by both the boys and the community. a small laundry for cleaning the boys clothes although the boys are encouraged to do their washing depending on the respective age. Shoe and clothes repair work is provided as part of the crafts section of the workshops. CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS Cheap local materials have been selected for whole scheme. The main materials are concrete blocks(150mmthick for load bearing walls),asbestos cement sheet roofing and concrete floors. Finishes are mainly; cement screed as floor finish or plaster on walls. Cellotex ceiling, though not very cheap has been used mainly for insulation. It is not as good as other boards Like wood wool slabs but it is one of the cheapest possible in the market.
