dc.description.abstract | This study assesses the problem of water supply
and storage provisions in a peri-urban residential
estate in Nairobi.
One of the most pressing problems facing any
country is providing wholesome and adequate water to
its population.
In less developed countries water problems were
originally severe in rural than in urban areas. The
reason being that the higher population lived in the
rural areas. With the recent rapid urbanization the
problem has become more acute In urban areas. The
situation is expected to worsen by the year 2025 when
the urban population will make up more than fifty percent
of the total population.
Kenya is not an exception to this urbanization
phenomenon. For instance Nairobi urban population
is expected to increase by more than double in the
year 1995 from that of 1980. This urbanization trend
is never matched with the provision of adequate services.
There are four chapters in this study. The
first section comprises the introductory chapter, covering
the general introduction formalities. It sets out
the problem, stating the objectives of the study, the study hypothesis, definition of terms, the scope and
significance of the study and the study methodology.
Chapter two reVlews the existing general literature
on water resources, especially as regards the water
sources and supply, water safety and treatment, storage,
planning and management of water resources.
Chapter three deals with data analysis and finally
chapter four gives the findings of the study, conclusions
and recommendations. | en |
