An investigation into the problems of communication in the implementation of a project: a case study of Kenya Government projects
Abstract
The capital goods produced by the construction industry
are vital to the well-being and functioning of a modern
economy. We take for granted the houses, bungalows and flats
we 1ive in, the factories , warehouses and offices we work in, the shops, schools, restaurants, Cinemas, hospitals, roads and many other facilities we use. The building and
constructional works are needed by both private individuals and
organisations as well as by various government authorities.
The staff involved in the construction industry (design team)
have a common goal, that is giving building users the most
functional buildings at prices they can afford. The functions
of the various peopie involved in the construction and design
process are interdependent. Communication becomes a vital
ingredient of the construction and design process, more so to
public projects where many people are involved.
The research was conducted to investigate the problems
of human communications with respect to contract documents.
Data was collected from members of the implementing team
for public projects by use of questionnaires.
The results obtained confirmed the assumption made that
the communication system is faulty.
It has been recommended that all the parties concerned should not only understand their roles but also appreciate the importance of other peoples roles with regard to
Communication.
