dc.description.abstract | Argues that the concept of "development" in the Third World is meaningless unless it is thought specifically in terms of rural development. A paradigm is suggested that might be of value in the analysis of the role of law in rural development administration in postcolonial societies. This is done in the context of specific social, economic, and political goals that one postcolonial state (Kenya) has set for the rural areas. It is contended that the basic priniciples underlying postcolonial institutions in the rural sector remain colonial, as does their mode of administration.
