A New Synthesis of Benzo (1, 2-b: 5, 4-b1) Difuran (Preliminary Work)

Abstract

The activity of the benzodifuran stimulated a study by Worden and co-workers in which some methylsubstituted linear benzodifurans were prepared and screened for erythemal activity (negative response). The parent benzodifuran was also prepared in the same study with an overall yield of 13% from 2, 4-dihydroxybenza1dehyde. The present study is carried out in an attempt to find a more favorable synthetic route to the parent benzodifuran.
