    Abstract
This study sought to determine the background socio-economic characteristics that have a significant ifluence on performance of entrepreneurs in Jua Kali secto. The need for study was aroused by the common claim that the sector is characterised by ease of entry, yet the entrepreneurs therein perform variably even when they are exposed to the same sectorial endogeneous environment.
