This paper discusses a novel approach for delineating watersheds by integrating spatial and dynamic modeling techniques. In particular, loose coupling between ArcMap and CatchmentSim software is demonstrated. The demarcated watershed can then form the basis for designing appropriate conservation works. The above procedure was successfully applied for the Kinze dam catchment area in Machakos district in Kenya. This study also reiterates that local communities can only be expected to participate in and fully support conservation works if they are involved throughout the entire conservation design process.en
