    Abstract
In traditional Kenyan societies, the aging population had a defined place within the extended family. Within this context, their emotional security, housing needs, their roles and statuses and economic needs were met. Modernization has been accompanied by changes that have influenced this traditional set up. This study examined the extent to which these changes have affected the ability of the family in meeting the social and economic needs of the aging population in Kenya
