The role of male Circumcision in the social organization of abakabras in central kabras

Abstract

The survey, which is based on the Abakabras of Central Kabras Location, Kabras Division was aimed at investigating the role of male circumcision in the Social Organization of the Community. The decision to limit the scope of survey to this community is based on the following considerations. Most of the studies done on circumcision have been large scale. There is no current data on the purpose of this practice. And finally there was no sufficient time to cover a wider area. These considerations if followed would hopefully help to achieve and initiate new approaches of research. They would lead to a change of emphasise from large scale studies to small scales tries, Hence establishing meaningful details of our cultural values. It would further lead to the general understanding as to why some cultural traits are still popular presently. The data was derived from both secondary as well as primary sources. This survey would be of special benefi t to ,medical practitioneers J church leaders and administration. Hence the project should be able to give vital cIues. The way the foreskin is cut is considered as a health hazard with the commng of AIDS. Local administrators become concerned when some bad incidences such as accidental genital mutilation and delayment of schooling occur. This study makes some recommendations which should help us to understand why circumcision should be discussed with much reservation and dignity
