    Knowledge management as a competitive strategy among aviation training institutions in Nairobi, Kenya

    Abstract
    Knowledge management uses systematic strategies for it to create value, discover and understand knowledge. This study sought to determine the extent of application of knowledge management as a competitive strategy among aviation training institutions in Nairobi. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design because of its ability to create a profile about a phenomenon. The target population comprised aviation training institutions in Nairobi. Primary data was collected using a questionnaire. The information was presented using bar charts, graphs and pie charts and in prose-form. The study results show that knowledge management had improved competitiveness of employees on their duties in the aviation training institutes. Knowledge management not only created the value of intellectual assets but also enhance an employee's productivity and competitiveness the employees. Knowledge management practices enabled employees and customers to get the information they need on time. Open and flexible organization system promoted knowledge management in an organization. The study concludes that Knowledge is a fundamental factor in the creation of competitive advantages. The study also recommends that knowledge management systems should be provided to ensure greater access to knowledge and equally important is that users' need to be enabled to use the knowledge once it is accessed and to subsequently share it with others. Finally this study recommends that a similar study should be done on the relationship between knowledge management and competitive strategy in all the aviation training institutions in Kenya.
