    Abstract
A delegation from the European Union (EU) recently visited the University of Nairobi (UoN) to look at the possibility for further funding for the Centre for Translation and Interpretation. This was revealed when the team paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Production and Extension, Prof. Lucy Irungu. In her remarks, Prof. Irungu thanked the EU for continuously supporting the University through the Centre saying that UoN management is committed to seeing the establishment grow. The support has seen the Centre get additional training staff, modern training facilities with state-of-the–art interpreting booths, a library and a computer laboratory. EU Lead Consultant, Mr. Bart Fonteyne, commended the University for fully supporting the Centre which was established in 2010 following collaboration between the University of Nairobi, the United Nations and the European Union with the mandate to train translators and conference and community interpreters within the African region. EU is looking to support the Centre and the students further in order to meet the growing market in Africa for translation and interpretation and supply qualified professionals by training more people. The support will be given in kind through virtual classes, equipment, student sponsorships and exposure. Present during the meeting was Prof. Enos Njeru, Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Jayne Mutiga, Director, Centre for Translation and Interpretation and Ms. Maria Persson, EU Consultant.
