UON signs MOU for a Surgical Skills Centre

Abstract

The two companies were represented by Mr. Guy Lebeau, Company Group Chairman, Johnson & Johnson Medical, Europe, Middle East and Africa and Mr. Mukesh Mehta, Director, Phillips Pharmaceuticals. The facility, which will be based at the Department of Anatomy, will be used by the School of Medicine to provide quality practical training in surgical skills and the management of surgical services. The Centre will also offer advanced training in healthcare and continuous skills acquisition of practitioners with a focus on patient’s needs. Speaking during the signing ceremony, Prof. George Magoha, Vice Chancellor, UoN, applauded the noble commitment of the two companies in establishing a world class Centre of excellence in training for surgical skills. He said that the Centre will be a new and exciting opportunity for students to gain practical surgical skills that will enable them thrive in the actual work place. As part of the partnership, the two companies will donate equipment for use in the Centre. Prof. Magoha assured the team of the University’s support and its commitment to sustain the project. Among those in who attended the ceremony included Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Lucy Irungu, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Production and Extension, Prof. Isaac Kibwage, Principal, College of Health Sciences, Prof. Charles Omwandho , Dean School of Medicine, and senior officials from UoN, Johnson & Johnson and Phillips Pharmaceuticals.
