New students formally inducted into the University community

The 5,000 students admitted to the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Architecture and Engineering, Biological and Physical Sciences, Education and External Studies, Health Sciences and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences on were on May 23rd, 2013, addressed by top University officials including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha, as part of the week-long orientation programme.
While officially welcoming the new students, Prof. Magoha congratulated them for their good performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examinations, the basis on which they were admitted to the University. The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the students to enjoy their time and experience in campus, by interacting with people from different parts of the world, instead of being cocooned in their respective disciplines because university education is a holistic experience.
The students were also sensitized on the HIV/AIDS endemic and VCT Services by the VCT Centre, University Health Services and drug abuse by the National Agency for the Campaign against Drug Abuse (NACADA).
Various aspects that will form part of the student’s lifestyle during their stay in the University were addressed by most speakers. The students were urged to concentrate on their studies and encouraged to engage in positive extra-curricular activities.
The orientation week is meant to assist the students settle down and adjust to the new life with ease. Some of the officials who addressed the students include the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Registrars from Central Administration Divisions, University Librarian, Chief Security Officer, Director, Centre for International Programmes and Links, Director, Board of Common Undergraduate Courses, Director, Information Communication & Technology Centre, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Legal Officer, Director, Students Welfare Authority and Managing Director, University of Nairobi Enterprises Services.
