This was revealed when the International Dean for Africa from Glasgow, Prof. John Briggs paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, UoN.
During the discussions it emerged that the two universities should explore other areas of collaboration for mutual benefit. Currently the two together with two other African based universities are working on a proposal for research collaboration on renewable energy to take advantage of funding opportunities by the Royal Society- DFID Capacity Building initiative, UK.
In his remarks Prof. Briggs said that Glasgow was interested in developing few but strategic partnerships with reputable teaching and research institutions in the areas of education, health, renewable energy and animal health.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Mbeche, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs, welcomed the discussions for potential collaborations and intellectual exchanges. He said that the University is keen on research collaborations especially in different areas of specialization such as engineering, emerging sciences and public health. The partnership will also be a good opportunity for the two institutions to share experiences.
Dr. W. N. Mwema, Team Leader, Electrical and Information Engineering and Prof. Sixtus Mwea, Acting Dean, School of Engineering were among those present during the meeting.
