dc.description.abstract | Themed ‘Creating Greener and Cleaner Environment’ the exercise was done in partnership with the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), ILRI, Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) and Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) who not only donated indigenous tree seedlings but also participated in the planting. The University Library, Procurement Department, staff and students and a team from the Kenya Air Force- Moi Air Base also took part. The chief guest of honour was KTDA Foundation Manager, Ms. Jackie Mathaga.
In her remarks, Ms. Mathaga commended the University of Nairobi for its efforts in conserving the environment through planting trees. She said that it was important for Kenyans to contribute in different small ways and reverse the damage already done to the environment.
While addressing the participants, Prof. Agnes Mwang’ombe, Principal, CAVS, thanked those present for their generous contribution towards tree planting. She called on Kenyans to plant trees in large numbers in order to increase the country’s forest cover which stands at less 10 per cent.
This month alone, CAVS is targeting to plant a record 15,000 indigenous trees in an intense tree planting programme in various in various University stations. Last year, the University planted about 9,000 trees. | en_US |
