dc.description.abstractThe University of Nairobi has entered into talks with the Venezuelan Embassy in Kenya on possible collaborations with institutions in Venezuela. In a meeting between the University and the Venezuelan Ambassador to Kenya, Jhony Balza, it was agreed that the two will look at different areas of collaboration that will be of mutual benefit. The partnerships will focus on enhancing cultural and knowledge exchange between the University and Venezuelan academic and research institutions. While presiding over the meeting on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Henry Mutoro, welcomed the initiative noting that the University was keen on establishing and implementing partnerships that will benefit both students and staff in terms of acquiring skills and building capacity. Amb. Balza said that in building diplomatic relationships, it is important to establish links with academic and research institutions in the country. He noted that the Embassy was keen on promoting the diplomatic, political, educational, social and economic issues through various initiatives. Already the Embassy is organizing activities such as photo exhibitions, presentations and cultural displays geared towards promoting the relationship between Africa and Latin America which dates back to several decades. Present during the meeting was Prof. Enos Njeru, Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Isaac Jumba, Acting Principal, College of Education and External Studies, Prof. Preston Chitere, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. Samson Ngunga, Dean, School of Education, Dr. Sophia Kaane, Director, Library and Information Services and Prof. Philip Nying’uro, Acting Director, Centre for International Programmes and Linkages.en_US
