Expanding education and improving its quality is central to the development of Africa. If we want to realize the goal of quality education for all, faculties of education in Africa need to take the lead in finding African solutions to our educational challenges. One of the ways of doing this is to meet to share our knowledge with one another.
World renowned educationists have already accepted invitations to act as keynote speakers and panellists. These educationists include Prof Asha Kanwar, President of the Commonwealth of Learning, Prof Bakary Diallo, Rector of the African Virtual University, Prof Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, Executive Chair of Teacher Education for Sub-Saharan Africa (TESSA), and Prof Bob Moon of the Research Group on International Development in Teacher Education. Refer to Speakers and CV's for further information about the speakers.
DETA 2013 will be the fifth Conference of its kind. Like the previous conferences, it will create a unique platform to share knowledge and deliberate on educational issues. DETA 2005 was held at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, DETA 2007 was held at Makerere University in Uganda and DETA 2009 was held at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. DETA 2011 was held at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique. All these conferences attracted more than 170 educationists from more than 20 African countries. DETA 2013 will take place in Kenya and promises to be an even bigger event.
