Abstract

Post-mortem examinations were carried out on 442 domestic animals and 19 wild animals from a radius of approximately 80 km around Kabete, Kenya. The diseases and lesions observed are listed. Helminth infections recorded were: Cysticercus bovis, Dictyocaulus viviparus, hydatid cysts, Fasciola gigantica, Haemonchus contortus and Trichuris sp. in one, 2, 2, 10, 2 and one respectively, of 130 cattle; Ancylostoma caninum, Dipylidium caninum, Dirofilaria immitis, Spirocerca lupi and Toxocara canis in 4, 7, 3, 15, and 3 respectively, of 280 dogs; F. gigantica, H. contortus and Paramphistomum sp. each in one of 8 goats; Anoplocephala perfoliata and Parascaris equorum each in one of 16 horses; Ascaris suum and Oesophagostomum sp. in 2 and one respectively, of 28 pigs; cysticerciasis, hydatid cysts, F. gigantica, H. contortus, monieziasis, oesophagostomiasis, parasitism (unspecified), stilesiasis, strongyloidiasis, strongylosis, trichostrongylosis and trichuriasis in 2, 2, 4, 5, 4, 3, one, one, one, 4, one and one respectively, of 43 sheep; parasitic hepatitis in one of 2 bush-babies; hydatid cysts and tapeworms each in one of 2 warthogs; and verminous aneurysm and strongylosis each in one of 4 zebras examined.
