Two main conclusions are drawn about the sociology of ideas: (1) the subject matter of research needs to be drawn out of local concerns and priorities; (2) the key tools of analysis conceal both intellectual and ideological biases. Land use scholars have so far not succeeded in providing a meaningful framework within which to analyze the nature of legal phenomena both on the narrow sphere of land relations and more generally in society. There is a great need for systematic investigation of the role of law in society.
