    Causes of pig mortality in farms around Kebete area of Kenya

    Abstract
    A total of 136 pig carcasses of different breeds, sexes, and ages from different sources were examined in the Department of Veterinary Pathology and Microbiology, University of Nairobi over a five year period (1977-1981). In 15 cases (11.0%) no specific cause of death could be diagnosed. Causes of death in 121 (89.0%) cases were: alimentary tract, 39.0%; respiratory tract, 13.2%; musculoskeletal system, 6.6%; cardiovascular system, 5.2%; peritoneal, 4.4%; liver 3.7%; urogenital tract, 2.2%; splenic 0.7% and general systemic diseases (septicaemia), 5.2%.
