    Abstract
The study sought to establish whether Hashi Energy Kenya Ltd achieved operational performance improvement after ISO 9001:2008 certification. It also sought to establish the challenges of implementation of the quality system. In the current highly competitive oil sector market, operational performance plays a key role in the survival of organizations. Over the years many of the oil marketing companies have adopted the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System (QMS) to optimize their operations. In order to study whether Hashi Energy Kenya Ltd had achieved operational performance improvement after ISO 9001: 2008 certification, several variables of operational performance were identified for analysis. These were stock days, tank turnaround, order processing time, truck turnaround time, customer delivery time, unit cost and customer complaints handling. Data for the variables was collected on monthly basis for a period of 36 months before and after ISO 9001:2008 certification. Seven null hypotheses were then tested with the use of one-tailed z-test at 0.05 significance level. The findings of the study revealed that there was significant improvement in operational performance after ISO 9001:2008 certification. This improvement has not come without challenges which were also identified with a view to determine how they were or can be overcome.
