    Abstract
The International Criminal Court aims to promote not only justice but also peace by impacting on the prevention of atrocious crimes since the prosecutions have been seen as a major threat to perpetrators. Its historical background will be reviewed with a touch on the Rome Statute so as to understand why it was established and much emphasis will be put on the cases that the court is currently hand ling. This thesis therefore, will argue that the court’s principal interest of promoting international justice and peace to meet the expectations of the international community has hit its mark as it’s well equipped to address the complexity of the two schools in specific countries to fight impunity. This has been seen by its commitment to fully reinforce the principles of universal jurisdiction and complementarity by encompassing interna tional law which oversees monitors and effectively holds regime leaders accountable
